India's refusal to join China's B&R regrettable: Chinese media

Nawaz Sharif attended One Belt, One Road (OBOR) summit in China and said the initiative would help overcome threats of terrorism, refugee movements, food and water security in the region.

Ten Pakistani laborers were gunned down on Saturday while working on link roads to connect outlying towns to the Belt and Road initiative.

Among others, the initiative seeks to build a network of infrastructure connecting China to Asia, Europe and Africa in the form of highways, bridges, sea ports and industrial parks.

The English-language newspaper China Daily has bombarded social media with quirky videos, including an American father telling his daughter bedtime stories about Xi's programme and children singing, "We'll share the goodness now, the Belt and Road is how".

Other leaders attending the summit include Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Pursuing the B&R initiative, China has no intention to form a small group detrimental to stability", Xi was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency.

"Now we are a member of (the initiative) we can get some specific project assistance from China's government".

He pledged a major funding boost to the new Silk Road, including an extra 100 billion yuan (S$20 billion) into the existing Silk Road Fund, 380 billion yuan in loans from two policy banks and 60 billion yuan in aid to developing countries and worldwide bodies in nations along the new trade routes.

Photos and aerial video from the scene showed the bus on its side, on top of a guardrail, with debris scattered across the road. At least 25 people were injured following an accident involving an overturned charter bus on southbound I-95 in Harford County.

"In advancing the Belt and Road, we will not retread the old path of games between foes".

Xi said China's Belt and Road plan would be open to all.

Mr Xi told world leaders gathered in Beijing at the Belt and Road Forum - named after the overland "Silk Road Economic Belt" and a "Maritime Silk Road" - that it was "a project of the century" that would benefit people worldwide. This is another area the Trump administration has chose to eschew, potentially further strengthening China's global position.

Chinese officials insist the initiative is purely commercial, but foreign diplomats and political analysts also see an effort by Beijing to promote its own vision of trade and security arrangements and reduce the US presence in Asia. High-speed railways and nuclear power have been among the first technologies exported to other markets.

"This will not overshadow (the summit) in an enormous way but it will absolutely continue to raise United States frustrations with Beijing", he said, adding that Washington was "frustrated" that North Korea was also invited to the summit.

The project " a belt road" is the reflection of our quest for a common development.

Pandey said the two countries had been in discussions for the past five months about the project, which could cost $7-8 billion and take up to eight years to complete.

Xi hopes to tie more than 65 countries and two thirds of the world's population to its economy.

"This is a continuation of Chinese non-interference", Economist Suman Bery said.
