Doherty, an engineering student at Duke University, was last seen at around 1 a.m. on Sunday in the area of Phyllis Lane in Franklin.
For a third day Tuesday, Franklin Police headed up a coalition of searchers from multiple local law enforcement departments combing wooded and marshy areas near a neighborhood where Michael Doherty, 20, was last seen.
Police said Tuesday that they found the Duke University junior's shirt and shoe while searching a stream near his house. The other sneaker was found a few hundred yards away by State Police.
His parents initially called police to say their son had been at a party the previous evening but had not returned home, reports TV station WHDH. Police detectives are interviewing people who'd been with Michael that night for any details or clues to his disappearance.

Police are using K-9 units and canoes in the search on Monday, which includes a "swampy area" near Phyllis Lane, according to WBZ.
