Celtics' Thomas out for rest of playoffs with hip injury

The Celtics are now down 0-2 to the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas is done for the playoffs with the right hip injury that cost him the second half of a 44-point loss in Game 2 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The team said that Thomas initially injured the hip March 15 against Minnesota and missed the next two games.

"Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred", McKeon said. The 5-foot-9 point guard led the Celtics to 53 wins and the first seed in the Eastern Conference on the heels of 28.9 points per game this regular season. We both looked at each other in agreement that there was no reason for him to continue watching this game with me. After aggravating it during Game 6 of the second round against the Washington Wizards, Thomas only played Game 7 after undergoing tests at the hospital. Normally a 40-point beatdown on the home court of one of the most historic franchises in National Basketball Association history would entice me to the point that I'd want to watch it over and over again, but this game was like watching a bulldog play with it's kibble-sized food.

The Boston Celtics have announced Isaiah Thomas is out for the remainder of the postseason. In Game 2, James tallied 30 points on 12-18 (.667) shooting, including 4-6 (.667) from long range, four rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks in 33 minutes.

Marcus Smart started the second half of Game 2 in place of Thomas. His sister, Chyna, died in a auto crash before the Celtics played the Bulls in the first round.

"He went through a bunch of different testing (last) Saturday and Sunday, was able to play Monday, hasn't felt great either of the two days", said the Celtics coach.

"We want to try to get better".
