"Gregg was always gracious to me... making sure I was included in everything from photo sessions to various parties and events... and even sometimes asking me to accompany him to events not related to the band's duties. "A very sad show day for me".
"Brothers and Sisters" went to make them one of most famous and successful bands of the 1970s, but growing disagreements, drug and liquor usage and bad blood when Allman (who was then married to Cher in a short-lived union) testified against their manager in a drug case, saw the group disband in 1976.

He and his brother Duane played in many bands in their youth such as the Untils, the Shufflers and the Escorts. It featured tight guitar harmonies by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, a pair of drummers and the smoky, blues inflected voice of Gregg Allman.
The Allman Brothers experienced their first real mainstream success in the early 1970's with the live album At Fillmore East. That same year, however, Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident; bassist Berry Oakley died the same way in 1972.
Shortly thereafter, Gregg recorded his debut studio solo album "Laid Back" in 1973, which offered his varying influences, including rhythm and blues and soul music.

Gregg and his late brother, guitarist Duane Allman, founded the legendary Allman Brothers and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Allman contracted hepatitis C after years of substance abuse; he had a liver transplant in 2010.
After rescheduling the dates, in March 2017, Allman's rep announced, "It has been determined that Gregg will not be touring in 2017", although no reason was provided for the canceled concerts. In 2016, he could not go on solo tour for health problems. However, he was forced to cancel the tour after experiencing an injury to his vocal chords.
"I never really knew Gregg that well", said local singer/keyboardist Donnie Fritts. "I have lost a dear friend and the world has lost a brilliant pioneer in music", Michael wrote in his sweet salute.
AMANDA PETRUSICH: Thank you so much for having me. Back in March (17), he made a decision to scrap all of his 2017 scheduled performances to focus on getting well. The next month, Allman denied rumors that he was in hospice care.
