The watchOS 4 Developer Beta is out; here's how to get it

The operating system adds a new Siri watch face, which dynamically adjusts its content according to your behaviour and schedule.

Activity and Workout are popular apps on Apple Watch, and they've been updated with more features.

Apple has unveiled watchOS 4, the updated version of its wearable operating system, bringing in a bevvy of watch faces and a Siri smart watch face.

A different watch face dubbed Kaleidoscope is exactly that - an endless series of static images transformed into mesmerizing patterns. It does this by using on-device machine learning and displays information automatically when the users lifts their wrist. That means your Siri-powered updates on your watch will update based on the time of day. Apple is also working with Walt Disney again to create faces for characters from the Toy Story franchise, which join the character faces of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. My Favorites Mix and My New Music Mix require an Apple Music® subscription.

In the fitness division, the Workout app will get an update with the new watchOS 4. For the more intermediate fitness enthusiasts, they will be able to also track high intensity interval training now. Apple is partnering with brands such as LifeFitness, Matrix, Cyber, StairMaster, Schwinn and TechnoGym, which will start rolling out compatible equipment later this year. This is a feature many heart rate monitoring chest straps have, but not many modern smartwatches or fitness trackers. Certain sports and activities are also getting love - pool swimming tracking, for example, is greatly improved and will let you lap by simply tapping the edge of the pool.

Apple watchOS 4 is going to launch as an update this fall, while the developer's preview will start seeding later today. A lot of visuals are changing: the Workout app has a new light gray and neon yellow color scheme with "tap and go" icons for starting exercise tracking; the Dock will be organized vertically instead of horizontally; a new News app will come on the Watch; and the Music app has been redesigned.

The Workout app got some attention, too, and may be more interesting to athletes than in the past.

In addition to that, the Activity app, Workout app, and Music app have also been further improved.
