Election Commission issues notice for Presidential elections

The decision NDA and a freely weave collection of opposition parties have increased endeavors to focus in on a "mutually acceptable" presidential applicant.

The ruling party panel is also slated to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury on Friday.

Six candidates filed their papers for the presidential election on the first day of nominations, officials said on Wednesday.

As the Election Commission on Wednesday set in motion the process to elect India's 14th President, the Returning Officer for the presidential poll issued a notice paving the way for filing of nominations for the 17 July contest.

If both NDA and opposition candidates compete for the post, then the results will be announced on July 20. They told Naidu that their parties will take a stand on the issue only after the umbrella Opposition camp firms up its decision, said sources.
