Matt Mika, of Oakland County, is the current director of government relations at Tyson Foods and was at the practice Wednesday morning.
His family released a statement following the shooting, and they are now traveling to Washington, D.C. The statement said that paramedics told them he was shot multiple times and is undergoing surgery.
Mika's family described him as "a very thoughtful, fun-loving person who is competitive and loyal; all things which contributed to his continued commitment to the Congressional Baseball Game".
Mika played baseball at Adrian College, from which he graduated in 2001 with a degree in criminal justice and political science.
Mika's LinkedIn profile says he has been at Tyson since January 2011, where he is responsible for "handling both state and federal issues, including issues related to the Farm Bill and the Committees on Agriculture".

I've never seen one person pin his layup on the glass-not one-because the spin he got on it and he don't have to look at it. You just smile when you watch him play, cause it's like, for somebody to be that skilled, you know had to work tirelessly.
He has also served several local lawmakers, including Dick Posthumus' 2002 run for governor, U.S. Rep. Dave Camp and U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg.
Mika was serving as a volunteer coach. He says many more people would have been shot if security staff hadn't returned fire.
