Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. She said, "They could've chosen anyone, but they chose me".
Jo-Anne Saunders, executive director of the center, had been organizing the Juneteenth Festival held each year at Perry Park, but said she chose to go in a different direction this year.
"We want to kids to be engaged, and each facilitator is in charge of telling a story", she said.
