NHL Expansion Draft: Top Seven Players Vegas Golden Knights Can Select

Are the Stars going to chance it and leave one of them exposed, or has general manager Jim Nill already swung a deal to give Vegas a draft pick to protect an extra player?

Along with the league's other 29 teams, the Blues submitted their list of protected players for the upcoming expansion draft on Saturday.

The Devils lose one player to expansion, and here are the most likely candidates to be taken.

Vegas Golden Knights general manager George McPhee had difficulty containing his excitement in anticipation of the NHLs expansion draft list being released. Also, the salaries of players selected must total at least 60 percent of the salary cap ($43.8 million) for the season that just ended.

So who might the Golden Knights select? "Sometimes, good goalies have bad years and average goalies have exceptional years", said Chayka.

Keeping those reported trades in mind, here's Postmedia's mock draft of what the Knights roster might look like, including the 2017-18 cap hit for each player.

"It won't have any impact on us", McPhee said of the salary cap increase which now sets the floor at $55.4 million.

"I heard gunfire coming from the camp and I saw people running out of the site", said Modibo Diarra, who lives nearby.

"Whatever you want to give us has to be better than what we can claim from that club", McPhee said in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Among the criticisms launched at May was also her government's failure to provide up to the minute information to survivors. She also says she will receive daily reports from the stricken neighborhood.

This much is certain: With plenty of teams talking, McPhee is definitely listening.

"The balance is whatever feels right for our team", McPhee said Monday. "This has worked out very well for the Vegas Golden Knights, and we expect to put a good, entertaining club on the ice". "What we've told everyone today is that today will be the last day we're going to have those discussions". Vancouver's 2012 first-round pick, Brendan Gaunce, was exposed.

Remember when the Flames traded a 3rd round pick to land Stone's services for a few months?

Only players with more than two years of pro experience needed to be protected, so the Bruins didn't have to protect young defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo. There's also a surplus of young goaltending talent, including Detroit's Petr Mrazek, Washington's Philipp Grubauer, the New York Rangers' Antti Raanta and Colorado's Calvin Pickard. I have shutdown guys in Methot and Johnson and potential power-play d-men in Alzner and Scandella, who checked in with an 11-goal season three years ago.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Panthers left Jonathan Marchessault exposed for the draft. They will begin playing next season and will be the 15th team in the Western Conference and eighth in the Pacific Division.

Longtime Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan - and last original member of the Winnipeg Jets - is the franchise's all-time leader in just about every offensive category.

Among the other forwards available: James Neal (Nashville); Jaromir Jagr (Florida); Patrick Marleau (San Jose), Joe Thornton (San Jose); Carl Hagelin (Pittsburgh); Bryan Rust (Pittsburgh); Alexander Radulov (Montreal); Eric Staal (Minnesota); Jarome Iginla (Los Angeles); Sam Gagner (Columbus); Patrick Sharp (Dallas).

His appeal: Turns out Staal still might have more to give as a top-two National Hockey League centre - rebounding from a meek finish in Carolina with 28 goals and 65 points in his first season for the Wild.
