Experts are predicting that gas prices could set a new 2017 low in the next few days.
Gas prices in MA have dropped by five cents this week. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.28/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com. That is a drop of 4 cents from the start of last week.
Nationally, the average price of fuel Sunday was $2.30, down from $2.33 a week earlier, while Georgia's average price of $2.16 was down three cents in the same period, the auto club said. The current average price is 9 cents less than this time previous year.
Only one other state, Oklahoma, offers gas below $2 a gallon. Consumers could continue to enjoy low gas prices after the Independence Day holiday, LaDoucer said, but AAA noted prices likely won't drop much further than this week.

Meanwhile, market watchers are keeping an eye on two tropical weather systems in the Atlantic basin. Oil and gas prices would rise if either of these develop into a major storm, move into the Gulf of Mexico, and threaten supply coming from refineries along the gulf coast. Miami followed at $2.33 with Fort Lauderdale right below it with an average of $2.32.
