"A party worker told me that when Manmohan Singh used to go overseas, nobody knew", he said.

Maintaining that law and order was a state subject, Shah said when Mohammad Akhlaq died, the Samajwadi Party-led government was in power in Uttar Pradesh, and it was its responsibility. The visit assumes significance as it is aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

Panaji: Under attack over lynch mobs killing those suspected of cow slaughter or eating beef, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah has termed such incidents as "serious", but claimed more of these were reported under the previous governments than during three years of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule.

Shah said, "I would congratulate the President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their leadership in bringing into reality one-country-one-tax under GST. GST has dissolved more than 17 different taxes converting them into a single tax which will help traders, businessmen and small entrepreneurs".

"With GST rollout, India transforms into One Nation One Tax One Market".

Criticizing Dr Singh, Mr Shah said that the former prime minister used to read out from written speeches on his foreign tours.

"But this tax reform will accelerate the economic growth of the country making it a global leader".

Following several such lynching incidents, including those in Jharkhand, Haryana and UP, protests were held late last month at several cities across the country.

Shah later left for Panaji where he laid a wrath at Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan.

Comparing the impact of Dr Singh's overseas visits to that of Prime Minister Modi's, Mr Shah said that during Manmohan Singh's tenure, the world never knew whether the then Indian Prime Minister went to China, the US or Russian Federation.
