The Africa Cup of Nations becomes a summer tournament and expands to 24 teams.
The Confederation of African Football's executive committee approved two major changes to the continent's top soccer tournament on Thursday, expanding it from 16 to 24 teams from 2019 and moving it from the beginning of the year to June-July. CAF will be richer and the Member Associations will surely benefit.
The expansion of the biennial tournament was one of the key issues discussed during the Caf Symposium in Morocco earlier this week, and a statement issued by the Confederation of African Football have confirmed the decisions taken by the working party.
The Africa Cup of Nations will be played in June and July from 2019. Many, like seven of Cameroon's leading players at this year's African Cup in Gabon, choose club over country to the detriment of the Cup of Nations.
The United States, China or Qatar could be asked to host the African Cup of Nations in radical changes proposed to give the continent's biggest soccer tournament the global exposure it craves.
Kevin Hart cheating rumours
I can say I messed my first marriage up. "At the same time, that was when I was in the prime of my sexy, so don't blame me". Kevin posted an Instagram photo of himself laughing with the text, "At the end of the day, you just gotta laugh at the BS".
It was agreed by the Committee to maintain the current format, but to proceed in the future to a change in timing for interclub competitions which are expected to start from August to May.
CAF said the new format will take effect from the 2019 edition billed to hold in Cameroon.
Chelsea, who went on to be crowned Premier League champions, and Tottenham, who finished runners-up, had no players missing.
Ahmad said this while receiving members of the Nigerian delegation, led by NFF president Amaju Pinnick, to the CAF symposium in Morocco.
