University of Iowa senior running back Akrum Wadley has been named to the 2017 Doak Walker Award Watch List, PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Thursday. College football has taken notice: After being named to the Maxwell Award watch list last week, he was one of 61 running backs named to the Doak Walker Award watch list on Thursday.

The Aurora native had a breakout season as a junior in 2016, rushing for 1,252 yards - almost a 600-yard improvement from his sophomore campaign (653).

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Montgomery led the Cyclones in rushing (563) and yards per carry (5.2) in 2016 despite seeing limited action in the first half of the season. Especially after teasing the Morgantown faithful in this years spring game, rushing for 66 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

The award, named for the legendary Southern Methodist running back, also recognizes a player's work in the classroom and in the community.

As Pettway climbed to the top of the nation's rushing leaders his name was dropped in Heisman conversations, but a couple of late season injuries slowed his momentum.

Along with being named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, Lindsey is also a Mountain West preseason third-team selection by College Sports Madness and a fourth-team selection by Athlon Sports heading into the 2017 season. He has rushed for 2,233 yards in his CU career, ranking 13th in Colorado history.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum released today the preseason candidates for the 2017 Doak Walker Award. On November 26, the committee will vote to determine a victor out of the three finalists. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.

The victor of the Doak Walker Award will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 7 (ESPN) and will be handed over on February 16, 2018.
