The other trains have already been named by the public: one is named Estelle, after the five-year-old daughter of Sweden's Princess Victoria, the next in line to the Swedish throne.

The move is seen as a public triumph after the British Research Council ignored the results of a public vote to name its new polar research ship Boaty McBoatface past year.

A Swedish rail operator has bowed to public opinion and named a train "Trainy McTrainface", after the suggestion topped an online poll with 49% of the vote.

The train company said it hoped the name Trainy would "be received with joy by many, not only in Sweden". The vote for the fourth and last train name begins next week.

A public vote to name four trains running between the Swedish cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg has expectedly resulted in at least one hilarious name.

"There was a bit of worldwide attention on the vote, and I imagine that some people were quite delighted to get some revenge for the Boaty McBoatface thing", Mr Nafsi admits. The most frequent proposal by far was Trainy McTrainface, a reference to Boaty McBoatface.

The name Boaty McBoatface was instead given to a remotely operated submarine aboard the polar research ship.

As a consolatory gesture, the research ship's remotely operated undersea vehicle, created to collect samples from the deep waters of the Arctic and Antarctic, will be named Boaty McBoatface, the government said.
