Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University Jagdish Kumar had an unusual request on Monday put forth to the External Affairs Minisrty where he said "Would like to request VK Singh ji to help us procure an Army tank so that we can put it on display in the university".

Celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas on the campus, the VC requested union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and General V K Singh to install an Army tank. "The presence of an Army tank will constantly remind students of the great sacrifice and valor of the Indian Army and defence forces". Other guests included cricketer Gautam Gambhir, major general (retired) GD Bakshi, author and Hindu activist Rajiv Malhotra and 23 families of martyrs.

Last year, during February, the JNU was rocked by a controversy over the alleged chanting of anti-national slogans by some students. "We should understand that if we are united, we can not be defeated", reported TOI and that the Indian Army had the "best record" on human rights across the world.

"Supreme Court Advocate Monika Arora and cricketer Gautam Gambhir underlined the importance of Indian nationalism for the Indian youth". Freedom of speech is important, but there are certain things which are absolutely non-negotiable.

Jerry Jones: No Domestic Violence Evidence Against Ezekiel Elliott
For his part, Jason Garrett said he had a productive conversation with Elliott about his behavior away from the team. Elliott could face a short suspension of one or two games, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier this month.

The sentiment represented at the convention was that the citizens of this country should realise the importance of 26 July - Martyr's day.

He further said "In no other country, is the Army being questioned". "JNU is always making headlines".

Lauding the initiative taken by the university, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan, said JNU created history today by organising Tiranga March, setting up Wall of Heroes and by raising slogans of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram". "One is the respect for the tricolor". "This is not only a victory of taking over Kargil in the external war, but also the victory of taking over JNU in the internal war", he said.

The JNU Teachers' Association also came out with a scathing statement, reminding the VC of his primary responsibility and how he has failed in it. JNUTA said it is "amused by the JNU VC's earnest desire that a tank be rolled onto JNU campus".
