Former Lion Allen Barbre traded to Broncos

Broncos acquire veteran Barbre to compete with Garcia at guard

Broncos make trade to add Allen Barbre to offensive line competition

The Philadelphia Eagles former parted ways with former first-round pick Marcus Smith on Wednesday afternoon, according to Howard Eskin.

I do not understand the reasoning behind the decision the Eagles made in trading veteran guard/tackle Allen Barbre to the Denver Broncos.

"Isaac's the starter and then there's just competition from there; that's the great thing about training camp, the great thing about this business, it's just so stinking competitive", offensive coordinator Frank Reich said.

Smith, who many said entered the NFL with the body of a high school football player, became the butt of jokes in Philadelphia.

Barbre has instead been traded to the Broncos, the team announced. The Eagles drafted Derek Barnett out of Tennessee with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He appeared in only 37 games, recording 12 tackles, four sacks and zero starts. Barbre's fate might have been sealed when the Eagles signed Chance Warmack to a one-year deal. The 33-year-old had been with the Eagles since 2013.

Mobile advertising revenue of almost $8 billion in Q2 powers Facebook's growth
We will see if that holds up when Facebook reports earnings in three months, after yet another warning about slowing growth. Facebook's stock , which closed the day up 0.2 percent, was trading as much as 4.5 percent higher in after-hours trading.

On the offensive line, Barbre's move (it was first reported as a release, later as a trade) comes a bit more as a shock as he was a valued and versatile offensive lineman who has started at multiple positions. It clears the way for a new starter to take the reins at left guard and grow accustomed to the role as training camp begins to ramp up for the Eagles.

Smith, the team's first-round draft pick in 2014, was released a few hours before he was due to report to the NovaCare Complex for the start of training camp Wednesday evening.

The move leaves the Eagles with 89 players on the roster and one open slot.

Philadelphia also signed linebacker Steven Daniels on Wednesday to a three-year contract. The Eagles saved $1.48 million in cap space and avoided playing him a almost $600K roster bonus that would be owed soon.
