The developer revealed a new project yesterday code-named Project 1v1 that it describes as a "top-secret, in-development, competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game". A "short" closed technical test is scheduled for this summer, and Gearbox has opened sign-ups for the beta on its website.
The closed test will feature three game modes. Victories in any of these modes will reward the player with loot crates containing new cards along with experience points. Challenge maps allow players to compete against friends in unranked matches. The test is asking for a limited number of players, in order to test the game's online infrastructure and for said players to send feedback.

Gearbox Software may have swung and missed with their most recent game called Battleborn, but they're not going to let that slow them down.
The test will be held on North American servers, so global players may experience decreased performance.
Those interested in throwing their name in the hat for technical test consideration can sign up over on the Project 1v1 website. And lastly Arena matches pit players against the current champion in an effort to take their top spot.
