Bullpen woes continue as Mariners lose to Angels

Mariners' lefty James Paxton leaves game with injury

The Seattle Mariners seemed determined not to let Angels' star Mike Trout beat them again with his bat.

Mike Trout, 26, a center fielder with the Los Angeles Angels and a 2009 Millville High School graduate, was the 2014 and 2016 American League Most Valuable Player.

Trout walked three times and scored the go-ahead run from second base on Jean Segura's error in the top of the ninth inning to give the Angels a 6-5 win over the Mariners on Friday night.

The Mariners regained the two-run advantage with two outs in the bottom of the inning as Seager hit a solo homer to right-center field, his 18th home run of the season.

The Angels' bullpen is 3-0 and has allowed three runs in 10 1/3 innings in the series. Bailey was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances before being sidelined.

"We put up good at-bats, guys walk if they don't get good pitches and eventually somebody, lately, has been getting the big hits".

Will the Angels and Mariners slug tonight in Seattle when the AL West rivals meet at 10:10PM ET?

The M's, with a 59-57 overall record, will look to get back on track in game two of the four-game series.

Rally Cat found: Rescue group captures kitty at City Garden
We understand from media accounts that the woman meant to take it home and care for it, but lost track of it in City Garden. She says the feline jumped out of her arms into some tall grass somewhere in Citygarden on Market Street.

The 31-year old pitcher was acquired by the Seattle Mariners on Friday from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations. Zych walked the first two batters before giving up Pujols' double to the gap. Pujols delivered a two-run single, Cron added an RBI single, and Simmons capped the rally with an RBI double that tied the game at 5-5.

Pujols had three hits, as did Cruz for Seattle.

"To here that it was a strain and it was going to be a few weeks was frustrating", Paxton said.

The Mariners almost regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as Yonder Alonso hit a one-out single to right field and tried to score on Robinson Cano's double into right-center field.

The Mariners also had the bases loaded with two outs in the third inning, but Jarrod Dyson struck out. Nolasco allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings. Yusmeiro Petit pitched the ninth for his second save. "There's no doubt. He's been really, really good". The Mets received minor league pitcher Ryder Ryan in return, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The loss of their best pitcher (12-3, 2.78 ERA) was a huge blow to a team that had reached wild-card level for the first time this season. He will report to Triple-A Tacoma. But Paxton becomes the third starter from Seattle's projected rotation at the beginning of the season to be on the disabled list late in the year, joining Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma.

Angels: JC Ramirez (10-10) makes his 23rd start of the season.

After starter Erasmo Ramirez gave the Mariners six strong innings, Lawrence replaced him in the seventh inning. Ramirez lost his last start against Kansas City.
