The police said the two buses were parked on the highway while the passengers were out for snacks just before the landslide happened.

To further intensify the rescue and relief operations, the National Disaster Response Force has been summoned, said the official adding that at least five people have been rescued so far in the ongoing operations.

As per latest reports, two buses are feared to have been washed away in the landslide. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh has reached at the spot.Sources said that during the rescue operation, bodies recovered from headless and amputated.

While one bus was on its way to Chamba district from the resort town of Manali, another was on its way to Katra in the neighboring state of Jammu and Kashmir from Manali.

Confirming the development, Himachal Pradesh transport minister G S Bali said that around 50 people are feared to have been washed away in the incident.

Earlier in the day, seven people were reported killed after three vehicles hit by a landslide at same road near Padhar in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.

Meanwhile, NH-21 Mandi to Aut has been declared unsafe and traffic has been diverted to Kulu Manali via Kamand route.
