Eagles release now-healthy running back Ryan Mathews

Reports: Eagles cut RB Ryan Mathews following physical

The 29-year-old Ryan Mathews suffered a herniated disk in his neck in the previous season during a Week 16 matchup against the New York Giants.

Mathews had neck surgery after the end of the 2016 season and the word out of Philadelphia all offseason has been that the Eagles plan to cut him once he's well enough to pass a physical. On Tuesday, the Eagles parted wayswith Mathews, the Chargers' 2010 first-round pick whose career has been marred by injuries and inconsistency.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been waiting for this moment for some time.

Swiss hotels under fire over signs directed at Jewish guests
The name Ruth Thomann does appear at the very bottom, which I realize is not definitive proof she was behind the signs. The incident isn't the first time Jewish guests have been treated in a less-than-hospitable way by European hotels.

With that, the Eagles acted quickly in making the expected follow-up move, releasing Mathews. "We wish him all the best as he continues his career".

This marks the third straight season in which Mathews failed to play an entire season, including his last season with the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers. Blount completed an National Football League career highs in carries (299), rushing yards (1,161) and rushing touchdowns (18) in in the past season for the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Newly signed LeGarrette Blount joins Wendell Smallwood, Darren Sproles and rookie Donnel Pumphrey. On Dec. 18, against Baltimore and the league's No. 1 rushing defense, Mathews ran for 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

The Eagles signed Mathews as a free agent in March of 2015 on the same day that the team signed former Dallas Cowboys running back and current Tennessee Titan DeMarco Murray. Mathews also had 33 receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
