As a graduate transfer student, he'll have the option to play in his first year with a team, but where he is going is anyone's guess. Last season, he actually totaled more rushing yards than he did passing yards, as he only attempted 26 passes. He's one of a handful of EMCC products from that season who are now transferring from the schools they landed at afterward. While Franklin was not a great quarterback at Auburn, he was certainly an explosive offensive weapon, which could be just what Kiffin needs to begin his tenure at FAU.
After the transfer of Jarrett Stidham to Auburn in December, Franklin changed positions and became a wide receiver.

Franklin was ranked as the No. 30 dual-threat quarterback nationally before he graduated high school. FAU would be his fourth college in five years.

Last Chance U star and Auburn Tigers quarterback-turned-wide receiver John Franklin III is transferring from the program, Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn announced on Tuesday.
FAU, in its first season with Kiffin as head coach, opens up against Navy at home on September 2 before a trip to Wisconsin on September 9.
"We wish john nothing but the best and thank him for his time at auburn". "Transferring was the last option because it takes a lot out of you". Clint Trickett was the quarterbacks coach at EMCC - and former West Virginia quarterback - and is the new tight ends coach under Kiffin at FAU this upcoming season. "I think I've proven that when I have it good things will come up from it".
Franklin would add immediate depth to FAU's receiving corps (should the Owls choose to keep him there) that figures to be led by former Texas receiver DeAndre McNeal. That situation prompted a move to receiver for Franklin.
