"Our principled position is that we don't recognize the nuclear status of North Korea", Putin told journalists after talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

September 7, 2017 (EIRNS)-Russian Far East Development Minister Aleksandr Galushka told TASS today that at a meeting yesterday, a delegation from North Korea, led by its Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Kom Young-jae, came with their own proposals of possible areas of cooperation with Russia.

South Korean media earlier this week reported that a North Korean ICBM appeared to be on the move, and CNN cited the South Korean prime minister on Thursday as saying that "some believe" a launch Saturday was possible.

"I suggest we realize simultaneous cooperation by placing nine bridges between Russian Federation and South Korea", Moon said in his keynote speech. "Given the new developments on the Korean peninsula, China agrees that the UN Security Council should make a further response and take necessary measures", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters on Thursday, without elaborating.

North Korea was typically defiant yesterday.

"While ignoring our government and the worldwide community's repeated demands and warnings, North Korea staged its sixth nuclear test following a series of ballistic missile launches".

A number of people in the South Korean village of Seongju have continued to protest against the government's deployment of a controversial anti-missile defence system, THAAD.

US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said he had an executive order ready for Trump to sign that would impose sanctions on any country that trades with North Korea, if the United Nations does not put impose new sanctions on it. Pyongyang's relentless pursuit of nuclear arms has raised tensions on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

Russia's exports of crude oil to North Korea were tiny at about 40,000 tonnes a year, Putin said.

South Korea has installed the four additional THAAD launchers in the southeastern town of Seongju, completing the deployment of a full six-launcher battery, despite fierce protests from villagers and liberal-leaning critics. In addition, it has been threatening to attack the US mainland, Japan and South Korea.

A "second Silk Road" across the North of Eurasia (through Russia) would limit the PRC's control of the Continent, and would provide a major boost for the Russian, North Korean, South Korean, Japanese, and possibly the Republic of China (ROC: Taiwan) economies.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang also reiterated Beijing's opposition to South Korea's deployment of the US Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence System, also known as THAAD, which is meant to protect against North Korean missile attacks.
