On Monday morning, airport director Emilio González told the Miami Herald that among the preliminary damage identified at the airport were leaks in every terminal, as well as suspected water seepage through glass panes.

According to meteorologists, Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall on Saturday night bringing with it gusts of winds with speeds of up to 127 miles per hour.

More than 500 flights had already been canceled with dozens being delayed from Atlanta, the world's busiest airport, according to Flight View.

American Airlines says they have capped their fares at $99 on direct, single leg flights from all cities affected under American Airlines' travel alert, which can be found here.

Most airlines were also offering waivers, like on Virgin America and Delta flights canceled in the next few days.

Flights on JetBlue and Southwest from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale to Albany Friday and Saturday were sold out as relatives and friends of Capital Region residents were attempting to escape the hurricane.

Now downgraded to a tropical storm, Irma is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, the National Weather Service said. Delta to resume inbound service Monday evening. "Customers with itineraries involving Atlanta Monday afternoon through Tuesday are encouraged to use to change their travel plans".

It says some of its flights are severely disrupted - and there could be further changes or cancellations.
