Security forces today resumed search operation in the dense woods near Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, where alert troops gunned down two infiltrators in Machil sector early yesterday. Weapons have been recovered from the slain militants, the spokesman said. Reports suggest the firing began at midnight and continued till 6.45 am.

The infiltration bid comes in the midst of scores of cease fire violations being reported by Pakistan. A huge stash of arms has been recovered and the search operation is now underway in the region.

The Machil and Naugam sectors in Kupwara district, Uri sector in Baramulla district and Gurez sector in Bandipora district of north Kashmir happen to be traditional routes of infiltration for militants.
