'At least' four killed in M5 motorway crash

At least four people died in a crash on the M5 yesterday after a lorry ploughed through the central reservation onto the opposite carriageway.

"The motorway is now closed in both directions between J16 and J14 and emergency services are working at the scene".

Avon and Somerset Police said a "multi-agency operation" was launced at around 2.30pm.

Major crashes involving multiple fatalities are relatively uncommon in Britain but eight people died in August when two trucks and a minibus collided at the start of a busy bank holiday weekend.

Police said the motorway would remain closed in both directions overnight between junctions 16 and 14 as specialist officers worked through the night.

Several vehicles were involved, including a lorry.

He said three miles of traffic trapped between the junctions was still being cleared via one lane of the northbound carriageway. "One was absolutely destroyed and another had flipped over".

Bulldogs beat down No. 12 LSU 37-7
LSU (2-1, 0-1 SEC) had 9 penalties for 112 yards, including two touchdowns called back and two players ejected for targeting. Derrius Guice ran for 76 yards on 15 carries for LSU, but the Tigers were penalized 12 times for 158 yards.

It is the second fatal crash on the same stretch of the M5 this week.

Paramedics touched base on the scene around six minutes after the fact and the lady Dr Hamed had been helping was taken away by emergency vehicle to healing center.

"Several people offered us water and one man came out of his vehicle to give food".

Looking over the bridge, the police, fire and ambulance crews are patiently doing their work at quite a disturbing scene.

The lorry that has slammed has hit what M5 workers will know as a well-known historic point, a windsock beside the street.

South Western Ambulance Service said it was called soon after 14.30 BST.

It added drivers on the M4 planning to join the M5 northbound were unable to do so.
