No any further extension in filing of returns under GST, says Hasmukh Adhia

Karnataka Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, Telangana Finance Minister Etela Rajender, Union Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia, GSTN Chairman Ajay Bhushan Pandey and GSTN CEO Prakash Kumar attended the meeting. However, for easier compliance, the council allowed businesses to file simplified GSTR-3B for four more months till December. While the network has coped well initially while registering taxpayers, it had come under pressure during filing of returns prompting the government to extend the deadline.

As FE had reported earlier, the GST Network had blamed the big taxpayers for flooding the system with invoices while filing the full return in the first week of the month. Initial issues need to be sorted out. We have decided a plan of action. The TS also emphasised that the data pertaining to the State, especially on returns and registrations to be shared on a daily basis. "The attempt was to work around the difficulties to eliminate problems, leading to better understanding of all stakeholders". The general tendency is that people wait for the last day resulting in heavy rush.

"Though 47 lakh traders have filed summary returns under the GSTR3B for July, only 3.05-lakh of them have filed for August so far while the deadline is September 20", said Modi. I appeal to all the taxpayers that they should not wait for last day.

"Infosys have given us updates and a timeframe by which date, which thing will be implemented, which thing can be improved and I think by October 30, we will be able to solve 70-80 per cent of the problems", Modi said.
