Watson leads Texans to win in first career start

Texans need increased output from Hopkins

Watson became the first rookie quarterback to win his first start on the road in a prime-time game since the Eagles' Joe Webb in 2010, according to Elias.

Cincinnati lost to the Ravens 20-0 at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday, the first time in their history that they opened the season blanked at home.

Later in the second quarter, Watson was drilled by Geno Atkins for an 11-yard sack, one of three sacks for the Bengals in the half.

Watson's first start, coming on his 22nd birthday, was a straightforward one and his passing game will require work having nearly thrown a couple of early interceptions, but he provided the game with its only major highlight.

There are very few quarterbacks in the National Football League capable of consistently rushing for 10 yards. Watson was 15 of 24 and was sacked three times Thursday but maintained his composure throughout. Unfortunately, the offense sputtered again, and Bullock had to add another field goal and the Texans led by just one (10-9). Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis says Dalton's job is not jeopardy, but another start or two like this from Dalton and it would be hard to defend not giving A.J. McCarron a chance.

But they didn't anticipate they would still have to fight the intense heat with fans and portable air conditioner units. It was "terribly hot", she added, but at least the elevator was working. "I want to thank everybody", Trump said.

The Texans are starting things off at 0-1 this year after a dismal showing against the Jaguars in Week 1. Hopkins caught seven passes for 73 yards, and most of that came after halftime. Dalton, who grew up in the Houston suburb of Katy, has struggled throughout his career against the Texans' in-your-face defense.

Last week we were so overjoyed for Thursday Night Football, as we were finally blessed with the return of the regular season. That would be a lot for the rookie, but it wouldn't be unheard of after the performance we saw from the Texans' offensive line last week. Lamar Miller had 18 carries for 61 yards and D'Onta Foreman had 12 carries for 40 yards. Houston's offense managed just 66 yards in the first half.

Bill O'Brien calls Cushing the "heart and soul" of the Texans' defense, which tells you all you need to know about O'Brien as a coach when this is the same team with J.J. Watt and Jadevenon Clowney. On Thursday, he had six tackles, knocked down one pass and hit Dalton once. To bench him in favor of Savage - a guy who's clearly not the answer - at any point for reasons other than injury would be completely pointless.

Cincinnati won the first three games of the series including beginning in the Texans' inaugural year of 2002 until October 2005. The Texans travel to New England next week to take on the Patriots.
