England captain Eoin Morgan pointed to West Indies' superior preparation as a key factor in the 21-run defeat to the tourists in Saturday's Twenty20.

This time, paceman Brathwaite damaged England with the ball when, in his only match of the tour - - he was not selected for the Test or one-day global legs - he took three for 20 runs in 3.3 overs.

But, ambling for a single after hitting the ball to backward point, Gayle was run out by Jason Roy's throw to bowler Liam Plunkett to leave West Indies 77 for one in the seventh over.

Chris Gayle, who returned to global cricket against India in July having not played for Windies since the final of that 2016 World T20, has been included in the tourists' squad. "We were happy chasing but I think losing three quick wickets cost us".

Brathwaite, however, bowled Hales for 43 made off just 17 balls, including eight fours and a six.

Morgan, out for two on Saturday, has managed just 12 runs in his last seven innings for Middlesex, Barbados Tridents and England.

In the one-off clash at Chester-le-Street, the Windies' opening pair of Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle got off to a flying start before Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid took three wickets apiece to ensure the visitors could only muster 176-9.

The 37-year-old Gayle, in common with several senior West Indies players, had been involved in a bitter dispute with Caribbean cricket chiefs.

And four balls later, West Indies' 106 for two had become 115 for three with Marlon Samuels, cramped for room, out for just 10 when he mistimed a drive to Root, at mid-on for the right-handed batsman.

We shall anyhow see the return of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard in the West Indies' national side.

The India match saw Lewis make a superb 125 not out.

The Trinidadian, however, was out soon afterwards when he drove Plunkett straight to England Test skipper Root at mid-off.

'I completely understand the frustration but there is certainly a huge need for guys who play all three formats to take a rest when needed, ' he said.

It was the highlight of a West Indies career which has yielded just three Test and 23 one-day global appearances for Brathwaite to date.
