A source told the paper two bullet holes were found in an aviation fuel tank near the Route 91 Harvest country music festival site. Thankfully, Paddock's attempts on this front were futile and did not cause a fire or explosion.
The two white tanks, located on a lot where private aircraft operators are based, stand approximately 1,000 feet away from the country music festival where at least 58 concertgoers were brutally gunned down.
Police said there was evidence Mr Paddock, who was found dead in his hotel room 75 minutes after the first 9/11 call, meant to survive the attack.
Construction crews repaired the holes after the FBI had investigated, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported. The source added that Paddock had broken two windows: one in line with the concert and one in line of the fuel tanks.
The tanks are operated by Swissport, the company that runs the fueling operations for the airport, according to McCarran spokeswoman Christine Crews.
A Swissport official could not be reached for comment.
He is believed to have killed himself in his room, although it is understood there was evidence he planned to make a getaway.
Death toll rises to 15 in Balochistan shrine blast
In February this year, ISIS claimed an attack on a Sufi shrine in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, that left 83 people dead. The bomber reportedly detonated the explosives after being stopped by a police officer at the shrine in Jhal Masgi.
A makeshift memorial is seen next to the site of the Route 91 music festival mass shooting outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., October 3, 2017.
A source knowledgeable about airport operations said jet fuel is hard to ignite and tanks like those across from Mandalay Bay have mechanisms in place to prevent fires.
"A machine gun is not going to blow up a tank of fuel", Mike Boyd, a Colorado-based aviation consultant, told the Review-Journal.
"Jet fuel itself sitting there in a big wet pile is very hard to ignite".
FBI spokeswoman Sandra Breault declined to comment to the Review-Journal as the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Mr Lombardo told reporters: "You look at the weapon obtaining, the different amounts of Tannerite [explosives] available, do you think this was all accomplished on his own?"
