Facebook India has announced in a statement that Umang Bedi, the managing director of Facebook India and South Asia has resigned from his position on Tuesday.

Facebook had appointed the former Adobe South Asia region MD Umang Bedi in June past year to build and maintain strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. Sandeep Bhushan, Director, Consumer and Media, South Asia has been appointed as the interim MD.

Bedi took over from Kirthiga Reddy who was the company's India head for over five years.

In recent years, Facebook has taken a number of steps to expand its market in India, a country that boasts over 450 Mn internet users and more than 616 Mn mobile users, as per reports by the Groupe Speciale Mobile (GSM) Association. He said, "It has been a phenomenal one and a half years at Facebook".

As per recent reports, India now boasts a total of 241 Mn active users, compared to the United States' 240 Mn Facebook-using populace.
