Sensex Jumps 348 Points On Earnings Optimism; Nifty Nears 10100

Sensex surges 100 points, Nifty opens above 10000; Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma GAIL up 1.5%

The Sensex of the BSE, which opened at 31,975.59 points, was trading at 32,009.63 points (at 1.23 p.m.) - higher by 85.22 points or 0.27 per cent from the previous day's close at 31,924.41 points. USA stocks reacted mutedly to the minutes of the most recent Federal Reserve policy meeting, according to a Reuters report.

Out of 1,941 stocks traded on the NSE, 367 declined, 1100 advanced and 474 remained unchanged today. Good demand on consumer stocks on arrival of festival season and ecstasy on pharma stocks amid positive regulatory approvals fuelled the market. "Market heavyweights TCS and Reliance Industries are slated to post results later this week", said Dhruv Desai, Director and Chief Operating Officer of Tradebulls.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) kept on offloading shares worth net Rs 107.95 crore yesterday, showed provisional data from exchanges. Both indexes ended at their highest since September 21.
