The results for crucial Nanded Waghala City Municipal Corporation (NWCMC) election will be announced on Thursday.

In the Nanded-Waghala Municipal Corporation (NWMC), the party-wise strength is as follows: Congress 41, Shiv Sena 14, AIMIM 11, NCP 10, independents 3 and BJP 2.

According to official sources in the State Election Commission Congress won 69 seats out of the 81 member civic body, a clear two-third majority. Last week, the BJP also claimed victory in Gram Panchayat polls-though opposition parties and Shiv Sena contested the claim since the Gram Panchayat polls were not fought on party symbols. Known for his outspoken nature, BJPs new ally and Maharashtra Swabhimani Party (MSP) leader Narayan Rane advised the BJP leadership to do some introspection on why it fared so badly despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis holding so many election rallies.

The Exit Polls conducted by the local reporters said the BJP, which tried hard to dislodge the Congress from its bastion, will be distant second winning 15-20 seats. It had made inroads into traditional Congress strongholds and also those of partner Shiv Sena. The results for 77 seats out of the total 81, have been declared so far. The voting took place on Wednesday. "The people have shown confidence in the Congress and have not swayed away by the BJP's false promises". The BJP had managed only four and the Shiv Sena was reduced to a single seat. It is the home base of Congress state president and former chief minister Ashok Chavan and the party has dominated the municipal corporation since it was formed two decades ago. The Hyderabad-based Owaisi-brothers-led All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had won 11 seats besides three others/independents.

There were five more candidates contesting the by-poll - Pramila Singh (Congress), Baby Sawant (Bahujan Samaj Party), Smruti Jadhav (Janata Dal-Secular), Deepika Jadhav (Sambhaji Brigade) and Vaishali Gajdhane (Bahujan Mukta Party).

The Congress, with 41 members, controls the outgoing civic body.
