Former UFC champions Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will meet in a five-round welterweight main event on December 16 in Winnipeg, per UFC officials. Standing in his way is another former world champion looking to cement his own place at the top of the division.
The main event could very well be a title eliminator, meaning the victor would likely get a crack at current 170-pound champion Tyron Woodley, who won the belt off Lawler via knockout at UFC 201 in July of 2016.
The next FOX special will air on December 16th from the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
Lawler, meanwhile, is coming off a decision win over Donald Cerrone in July. This bout marked Lawler's return to action after more than a year on the sidelines.
VICTOR GARBER Exits DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW As Series Regular
Rumblings about the actor's exit reportedly first surfaced when the show was wrapping its sophomore run. Soon after, Stein and Jax were recruited by Rip (Arthur Darvill) and became members of the Legends .
A meeting of ex-champs is now the headliner for UFC on FOX 26. Against dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 26, he'll look to string together a couple of wins to work his way back into title contention.
Since moving up, dos Anjos is 2-0 and ranked No. 5 in the welterweight division with wins over Tarec Saffiedine and most recently a dominant first-round submission of Neil Magny at UFC 215 in September. It had been one year since "Ruthless" stepped into the octagon following a knockout loss to current champ Tyron Woodley at UFC 201.
Lawler, who is now ranked as the number one contender for the title, has a 28-11 record with one no contest.
With the show headlining on FOX, the victor would have a strong case for a title shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who is now out of action with a torn labrum.
