Report | LaMarcus Aldridge discussing extension with Spurs

Aldridge averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season, each of which were his lowest since his rookie year.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports the extension is a three-year deal worth $72.3 million. Aldridge will elect a $22.3 million player option on his 2018-2019 contract, and the extension will begin in the 2019-2020 season.

The deal will officially kick in starting with the 2018-19 season.

Aldridge was originally selected by the aforementioned Trail Blazers, by way of the Chicago Bulls, in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft out of Texas. In June, the Spurs discussed trade scenarios with multiple teams featuring Aldridge, but nothing happened. Nevertheless, Aldridge arrived in training camp in strong shape and with a better relationship with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, and both sides understand that the uncertainty of free agency next summer could make an extension a wise option. He's averaged 19.1 points and 8.3 rebounds for his 11-year National Basketball Association career since being selected by Chicago with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2006 draft. "Oftentimes he's gotten overlooked or maybe even misjudged".
