THE NEHRU Nagar police in Kurla (east) arrested a 19-year-old after he was purportedly caught on a CCTV camera assaulting a 17-year-old girl from his building Tuesday. The man has been identified as Imran Shahid Shaikh, who lives in the same building and reportedly her neighbour. Her friend, who was present with her during the incident, took the victim to a nearby hospital.
The police, who had yesterday arrested and later released Shaikh on bail, took the accused into custody again and said a new charge of molestation under section 354, IPC was against the accused.
The CCTV footage showed passersby remaining mute spectators. The parents of the minor girl had filed a complaint against the culprit, alleging that the man had thrown stones at their daughter and had slapped her repeatedly when she raised an alarm.
According to a police official, the girl was going to a class with a friend when she saw a group of youths seated inside a parked autorickshaw arguing loudly.
The girl's fault was that she asked the boy to talk softly with his friend.
