Royal Canadian Legion's poppy campaign kicks off Friday

In the past, veterans and the Legion have discouraged people from using separate pins in the centre of the poppies to keep them in place.

The Poppy Appeal is as relevant today as it was at its inception in 1921 when the Royal British Legion was formed with the Appeal culminating on Remembrance Sunday; a day we remember and honor those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

In the a year ago, the generosity of the public helped the charity answer more than one million requests for help.

More than 20 million poppies are available across the country, on a donation basis, this year with the national Royal Canadian Legion also hoping to match or exceed last year's record-breaking fundraising effort.

It's poppy Friday at the Mountain Legion.

AS the Orihuela Costa and District Branch of The Royal British Legion (RBL) looked forward to its busiest time of the year, there was an opportunity for members to relax following their October monthly meeting when local entertainer Paul Cullen dropped into Mil Palmeras to entertain over 80 RBL supporters.

All the money raised from the poppies will remain with the Mountain Legion to help veterans in the community.

"We have supported the nursing home, we have supported the hospital", said Dukart.
