Teal Pumpkin Project makes Halloween safe for children with food allergies

Teal Pumpkin Project: Homeowners provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters with allergies

Making Trick-Or-Treating safe for kids with allergies

If you want to join in, paint a pumpkin teal, or pick one up from Michaels and get some non-food treats like stickers, or glow sticks.

Every year, millions of children will go trick or treating but almost 6 million of them have food allergies. It's estimated that 8 million kids, or one in 13 have food allergies making trick-or-treating tricky. A teal pumpkin on a doorstep indicates to neighbors that the home will be distributing allergy-friendly items to children out trick or treating. A SWAT Team leader asked the Lexington Police Department, Empress Medical Services of NY, the Cincinnati Police Department and other departments nationwide to join in on the opportunity to spread the message about the Teal Pumpkin Project.

The Food Allergy Research and Education group started in 2012.

The agencies used the video as a chance to urge other law enforcement agencies into action.

Although some might see teal pumpkins as a symbol of overprotective parenting, food allergies are a serious problem for Canadian families, said Dr. Parwinder Gill, who works in clinical immunology and allergy at St. Joseph's Hospital in London.

Fadnavis, who accompanied Defence minister Sitharaman and Railway Minister Goyal, said the Army will also help in building foot overbridges at two other stations here.

"There's all different types".

Since the project sprouted in 2014, places like United Market Street are promoting the importance of the teal pumpkin.

Food allergies have increased by 50 percent over the past 20 years and Halloween can be hard for those with food allergies. "So if you have a food allergic child come to your house, they can choose something that's not a food that could be problematic for them".
