In a statement, Office of Student Life spokesperson Dave Isaacs said that this semester, the university is investigating the most cases in recent years of Student Conduct violations from chapters of the Interfraternity Council.

In a letter to all fraternity members Thursday, Ryan Lovell, the director of sorority and fraternity life, called the 11 investigations "an unacceptably high number".

The fraternity investigation was the largest on the campus in years.

A letter from the university president to students said that activities at an off-campus party hosted by the fraternity included underage drinking, drinking games and coerced consumption of alcohol. The culture- and service-oriented chapters of the Multicultural Greek Council are exempt from the suspension as well.

I have asked Joanne Smith, Vice President for Student Affairs, who has responsibility for the Greek Affairs system, to immediately initiate this review and propose recommendations for reinstating fraternity and sorority chapters that demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Texas State and the ideals established by their respective national organizations.
