To expand its base, global e-commerce giant Amazon launched its Prime membership programme in Singapore today.

The Amazon Prime service includes member benefits such as, fast shipping, streaming, and gaming.

Fans of gaming and video-streaming service Twitch will also be able to enjoy gaming perks, free channel subscription and commercial-free viewing.

These services would be sought now that the American retailer has ended its Free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping service to Singapore.

The Vice-President of Amazon Prime International, Mr Jamil Ghani, said that it has learnt a great deal about how to craft the Prime programme through that experience. But for a limited period, it will go for $2.99 a month, although Amazon did not specify for how long.

Existing Amazon Prime Video subscribers in Singapore will not be forced into joining Prime, however, it will no longer be available for subscription as a standalone service.
