Auburn won the SEC West and was ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff before falling to Georgia, 28-7, in Saturday's (Dec. 2) SEC Championship game. Media members were asked to stop asking Auburn coach Gus Malzahn questions about the possibility of accepting an offer to coach at Arkansas during Sunday's Peach Bowl Teleconference.

Malzahn went to high school in Fort Smith, Ark., was a walk-on receiver at Arkansas and finished his playing career at Henderson State.

If the best is yet to come following this deal, that is welcome news for the Auburn faithful. The Tigers were selected to face undefeated UCF in the Peach Bowl.

GUS MALZAHN: I'm the head coach at Auburn, and I just said I want to be the head coach at Auburn. He previously served as an offensive coordinator at Arkansas and was a head coach at Arkansas State.

Malzahn has been at Auburn since 2013 and has gone 45-21 over five seasons. This likely bodes very well for Georgia and its College Football Playoff chances.

With all of the coaching turnover in the SEC, Malzahn is now the only coach left in the conference with a win over Alabama's Nick Saban. "I love my players", Malzahn said Saturday.

He also has the No. 9-ranked recruiting class in the country coming in for the 2018 cycle, per 247Sports, so there is reason for optimism moving forward.
