IPL Governing Council clears way for MS Dhoni to rejoin Chennai Super Kings

The player rules for the Right to Match are maximum number of three Capped Indian players, maximum number of 2 overseas players, maximum number of 2 uncapped Indian players. Under Dhoni's stewardship, CSK won two IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. Rajasthan Royals (RR) was the other IPL team to be banned for the same duration after the betting ring was busted. The meeting, that was also held by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) also discussed the budget each franchisee will hold.

The franchises can retain a maximum of 5 players using the combination of retention or the Right to Match.

CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR), who will be returning to the league after serving two-year suspensions, will be allowed to retain players who played for their respective squads in the 2015 IPL season and those who were part of now defunct teams Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant.

It's worth noting that Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of CSK owner and once a BCCI heavyweight N Srinivasan, was the central figure in the scandal.

IPL Governing Council also released the slab for a salary hike for the next three seasons to - INR 80 crore for 2018, INR 82 crore for 2019 and INR 85 crore for 2020, with a minimum spend cap of 75 percent of the salary.

Two new teams, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions squads were introduced to replace the suspended teams.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council on Wednesday. For Dhoni and CSK fans, it means that MSD will don the yellow jersey once again.

"What has been decided in the meeting was that the franchises can retain three players and two Right to Match or two retentions and three Right to Match", said one of the members who attended the meeting.
