Weather forecast: Snow flurries likely to linger into the weekend

TODAY'S FORECAST: Showers, high near 53

The overnight low is expected to be near 28. It will be breezy and cloudy with a high near 62 degrees.

Today's high will be near 44 with mostly sunny skies and a west wind of 8 to 15 miles per hour, gusting to as high as 22 miles per hour, the weather service said. Winds will become northwest and remain brisk today, coming in around 10-20 miles per hour.

Previous forecasts this week predicted a mix of snow and rain to fall Thursday night and Friday morning, but the mixture might linger until Saturday, the National Weather Service in Raleigh said Wednesday morning.

Tonight: Rain showers before midnight, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low about 24. North wind around 5 miles per hour. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 21 miles per hour.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 54.

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of rain.
