Apple Posts 'Best of 2017' Lists on App Store, Apple Music, and iTunes

Roughly a week after Google revealed the Android Play Store's top apps of the year, Apple has done the same, showcasing which of this year's most popular apps, music, movies, podcasts, and books have topped iOS users' lists in 2017. Apple says its app of the year for iPhone is Calm, a meditation and sleep app, and Splitter Critters is 2017's iPhone game of the year.

HUAWEI Technologies is set to launch its pre-installed localised application (app) store in South Africa following its success globally.

As per Apple App Store Editors, "Enlight Videoleap" is the 2017 iPhone App of the Year, while "Affinity Photo" emerged as the 2017 iPad App of the Year. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was also rated as the best song of 2016 by Apple. Both the games are not freemium titles.

According to Apple, the top song of the year is The Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, while Drake's More Life is the top album. Apple said Taylor Swift's new album Reputation has already reached No. 3 on the 2017 U.S. top album chart, an impressive feat considering it was just released on November 10. The passing year saw a rise in real-time competitive gaming, apps focused on mental health and mindfulness, and apps transforming storytelling and reading.

The free iPhone apps top 10 reads like a checklist of obvious downloads, with Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger all featuring, along with Bitmoji - highlighting just how popular emoji-based conversation has become.

As in previous years, the company's App Store editors have selected the best apps and games of the year for every software platform - iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
