Eli Manning back as Giants' starter

Eli Manning sat out a game for the first time since early in his rookie year Sunday as Giants lost to Oakland

But benching Eli - who had previously started 210 consecutive games for the Giants, the second-most of anyone in the National Football League - was the straw that broke the camel's back, it seems.

Geno Smith has been benched after one game, and Eli Manning is back as the Giants' starting quarterback.

What was your reaction to former head coach Ben McAdoo losing his job? "I love to play quarterback and I love to play quarterback for the New York Giants". I particularly want to thank the entire coaching staff for their dedication and hard work.

Mara signed off on McAdoo's plan to bench Manning at halftime in Oakland because he wanted to see Smith and Webb play in the final five games of a lost season.

Manning took the first-team snaps at Wednesday's practice.

"It helped me to kind of keep my head up during last week and just realize the impact you've made on so many people and the championships and the games and how I've conducted myself makes a difference", he said.

The irony of this situation is the fact that the one time Reese picked a quarterback to potentially be the next franchise guy (Davis Webb), he never even got the chance to watch him play, because, well, he got fired.

"It was good to see 10 in there", Justin Pugh said.

Eli Manning has loved being the quarterback of the New York Giants through three presidents now.

Manchester United backed to complete Danny Rose transfer in January window
Tottenham had already sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City and the former Southampton boss was keen to keep Rose at the club.

A week and a day after McAdoo came to the decision regarding the quarterbacks, order has been restored for the time being as interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo has named Manning as the team's starter moving forward based on his gut feeling and confirmed by his conversations with offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and the rest of the offensive assistant coaches. "What happened, happened. In the long run, hopefully it's a really good thing".

Spagnuolo was not sure whether the evaluation would be done, adding his goal is to win games. Stay the course, and the Giants may be left with an aging Manning and no real depth at any position.

He recognizes he may be asked to sit again so rookie Davis Webb can be evaluated.

One: John Mara shouldn't be crowdsourcing how to handle his quarterback situation. I'm just going to continue to be the same guy, continue to support my guys, my teammates. I'm built for everything that's going to come my way and I know that all of these tests and these trials are preparing me for something greater. "Continue to be prepared, you never know what can happen and we'll see from there". The Giants will also attempt to take advantage of Dallas' aggressive front four with screen passes to their running backs.

"I think it was long overdue", Cruz said. It's just uncalled for.

I'll be honest with you, I'm not focused at all on that and I would say this to everybody and I mean this sincerely, I leave that in God's hands. Pugh and RB Wayne Gallman (hip), LB B.J. Goodson (ankle) and DT Damon Harrison (elbow) were limited.

NOTES: CB Eli Apple (hip/back), LB Jonathan Casillas (neck/wrist), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and T Chad Wheeler (concussion) did not practice.
