2017 saw several feature-rich smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Moto G5 Plus, Huawei Honor 6X, Xiaomi Mi A1 and others being released in India but it will appear as though they are one year old when 2018 sets in a few weeks from now.
Xiaomi last week launched its next entry-level smartphone called the Xiaomi Redmi 5A.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus were shown off by the company on Twitter ahead of the official launch due this week. Both the phones will look identical, and will only differ in the display size with the Redmi 5 Plus being the larger of the two. As far as specifications go these have also been leaked. AliExpress listed only the 2GB and 3GB variants on its website.
"From the purported leaked image above, the Redmi 5 pictured on the right is getting a 5.7" 18:9 display and it runs on a Snapdragon 450 processor.

The smartphones may be available in three different storage options. As for the cameras, the handset is said to sport 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
Under the hood, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, an Android 7.0 Nougat OS, a 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM, a 32GB/64GB internal memory expandable up to 128GB via microSD card, a 13MP main camera with BSI CMOS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), dual-tone LED flash and 1.12µm pixel size, a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide angle view of field, and a 4,100mAh battery. Dimensions include 151.8x72.8x7.7mm and it will weigh 157 grams. Similarly, the Redmi 5 Plus is said to cost $249.99 (approximately Rs. 16,120) for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage option.
Adding on from its TENAA listing, the smaller Redmi 5 will get a lower 1440×720 screen resolution and it could come with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage. The Redmi 5 Plus is expected to come with Snapdragon 600 series SoC. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will also come with the latest MIUI 9 out of the box, which is already confirmed by Xiaomi in the MIUI forums.
In any case, everything will be revealed in a while.
