The Salvation Army started using red kettles to collect donations for the holiday season back in 1891, and they are now used worldwide.
Forwards Tomas Tatar and goaltender Petr Mrazek will represent the Red Wings at Kroger in Royal Oak (2200 E. 12 Mile Rd.), while Red Wings Alumni Kris Draper and Chris Osgood will bell ring at the Kroger location in Plymouth (15455 Haggerty Rd.).
It's a job he takes a lot of pride in.
An anonymous donor dropped a rare coin with an estimated worth of nearly $300 into a Salvation Army red kettle at a Kroger store in Milford.
Salvation Army donations are unusually low this year - about 13 percent off the pace - so the rare gold coin came just in time, Tracey Leong reports.
The person then goes and buys the gifts, and returns them to the Angel Tree with the tag attached to the wrapping.

Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles , said in a statement at a news conference that, "These are days that break your heart". Cal Fire chief Ken Pimlott said the strong winds were compounding the difficulty of fighting the fires.
"I have had this happen to me before and I know how cool it is for the families to receive it", said another woman.
"I just don't really know how to say how incredible this is to the people that get it", said one woman.
"The Lions Club is a caring group looking for places to help the community", said Benner, who is also a member.
Funds have been trickling in while the need continues to increase.
According to The Salvation Army, the donor wanted to provide this matching opportunity as a way to honor her late brother, who during his life had struggled with homelessness, addiction and poverty.
There are no cameras in that section of the mall, but police say they plan to track down leads, wondering how someone could steal from the Salvation Army.
