This now officially makes the Joburg Open the only tri-sanctioned tournament in South Africa.

Davidse, who plays out of Stellenbosch, was among the first men out on Thursday morning, teeing off at 7am on the Bushwillow course and he made the most of good scoring conditions.

The tournament at Randpark Golf Club starting on Thursday, was set to feature SA's top-ranked player, at 23rd in the world, but a freak incident left Oosthuizen with no choice but to withdraw.

"I'm obviously very happy", said the 28-year-old.

Among the six players tied for second place were Jared Harvey, Ockie Strydom and Erik van Rooyen - all South Africans.

Dean Burmester shot an 81 the last time he played an opening round at Randpark Golf Club; it was a different story today as he crafted a bogey-free 6-under-par 34-32=66 to finish round one of the Joburg Open just two shots behind early leader Keenan Davidse and T4 on the live board.

Square Enix Teasing New Tomb Raider Game
So while all of this is still speculation, it is certainly a lot closer to an official confirmation than we were a year ago. Thanks to a heartfelt message from Square Enix, we now at least know that more is on the way!

"When I played the Sunshine Tour event at Simola my little boy was sick with a bad chest".

Some of the biggest names from the three tours billed for the tournament include the Sunshine Tour's Louis Oosthuizen‚ former tournament champions Richard Sterne‚ Haydn Porteus and Darren Fichardt.

Oosthuizen, who was coming off successive top-10 finishes at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and Mauritius Open, was understandably one of the favourites to win the R16.5 million event, but he proposed compatriot Dylan Frittelli, the victor of the Indian Ocean island tournament last weekend, as a strong contender for the title at Randpark.

According to Golf Channel, Oosthuizen "jammed his fingers in between two airport trolleys."

Oosthuizen was replaced in the field by American Cody Martin.
