Seattle receives permission to apply for National Hockey League team

NHL says Seattle can apply for franchise, start season-ticket drive

NHL agrees to accept expansion team application from Seattle

The NHL Board of Governors has agreed to accept an expansion application from Seattle, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced Thursday.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says the franchise fee for the 32nd club has been set at $650 million USA, up significantly from the $500 million United States the Vegas Golden Knights paid to join the league this season.

The NHL Board of Governors gathered today in Florida for their final meetings of the League's Centennial year.

"It does not mean that we are opening a new expansion process".

Bettman says he doesn't know where this leaves Quebec City other than to say right now they're only looking at Seattle for possible expansion.

Gold trader Zarrab accused of raping ex-cellmate in his sixties
Once they were cellmates, Zarrab "started telling Plaintiff that he likes having sex with both men and women", Jaber's suit reads. Zarrab's testimony likely will win him leniency against charges that otherwise could carry a prison term of up to 130 years.

The news came one day after Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed a memorandum to renovate the KeyArena, NBC affiliate K5 News reported.

The expansion fee for a new team in Seattle will be $650million and would give the National Hockey League a chance to balance the conferences, if the city's expansion application is accepted.

"Obviously, there a lot of differences between Seattle and Quebec City, not the least of which is our conference alignment", Bettman said. If Seattle franchise works out, the team will not begin playing until the 2020-21 season.

The NHL is focused on evening out the conferences to 16 teams each before expanding more teams in the East. The move marks the latest step toward the end of Karmanos lengthy attempt to sell the team he moved from Hartford, Conn., to North Carolina two decades ago.

National Hockey League commissioner, Gary Bettman, said that Seattle can submit to receive an National Hockey League franchise, as reported by multiple sources.
