EU sounds alarm over US embassy decision

"[The] truth of the matter is, we've not disengaged from the climate discussions", Tillerson said at press conference in Vienna. But he said people should "listen carefully" to Trump's speech in its entirety.

"We believe that any move that could derail the possibility of re-launching talks for instance moves around Jerusalem will be detrimental in immediate terms and in the perspective of opening diplomatic process in the Middle East", she said.

He did not comment directly on the expected announcement, saying that the United Kingdom will have to "wait and see" what Trump says in his speech later on Wednesday.

Tillerson's visit to the embassy was followed by a sitdown with the European Union's chief diplomat, Federica Mogherini, who took a somewhat stern tone in her remarks to reporters after the meeting, highlighting some of the areas of disagreement between the U.S. and the EU.

He also came seeking commitments from Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to protect peacekeeping forces in Ukraine and to ultimately halt Russian aggression in the region.

On Tuesday, the first day of the Brussels meeting, Tillerson said that Iran is carrying out "destabilizing actions" by supporting "Hezbollah" in Lebanon, supplying missiles to Houthi insurgents in Yemen, and sending weapons and militia fighters to Syria.

"We get dialogue, we get cooperation", he added. You don't solve it in one meeting.
