AAA releases their 2017 holiday travel forecast

More people than ever are expected to travel during the year-end holiday season. "We've seen the strong economy and growing consumer confidence fuel holiday travel all year long".

The projected travel volume is an increase of 3.1 percent nationally and 3.6 percent in OH, and marks the ninth consecutive year of year-end holiday travel growth.

While 91 percent of Americans will get to their holiday destination by vehicle, 6 percent will fly and 3 percent will find another way.

Almost one-third of the people living in the Las Vegas Valley are projected to travel out of town for the Christmas and New Year's holidays, according to a AAA survey expected to be released Thursday.

For the 97.4 million Americans traveling by automobile, INRIX, a global transportation analytics company, in collaboration with AAA, predicts travel times during the holiday week could be as much as three times longer than the normal trip.

The higher average vehicle rental cost sets new five-year record high rate for year-end holiday travel. AAA Two Diamond hotels cost 5 percent less, at an average of $121 per night.
